25 Years of Contribution
I had my first Exhibition in 1982 at the Liamuiga gallery on fort St. The second one was held at the Spencer Cameron art gallery which was dubbed portrait of an artist, where I met and sold a painting to talk show host Oprah Winfrey in 1991.
I was the 1st local to have a Trademark in St .Kitts with my SkB Black Sand logo. Having worked at the Government Printery, as the Camera Man and later Acting Government Printer, I was involved in the Gazetting of this Trade mark.
On two separate occasions I was featured on Carib Scope, the St .Kitts / Nevis visitor magazine and also in the 14th anniversary magazine. In Europe, I was featured as an Artist on CNN’s “Breakfast with the Arts” show.
In 2001 I designed the Population and Housing Census Stamp and was also one of the winners in the stamp competition to commemorate the 18th Anniversary of Independence. Up to date I have designed eight stamps. 16 of my Original Paintings are been displayed at the National Bank on Port Zante. Some are at the Post Office and others are at the Treasury Building
Here are some of the logos that I have designed. The logo that were on the Caps of the School Children, during the Independence Celebrations. The Ministry of Tourism and Culture, ECCB, Fulton Bakery, The Children’s Dance Theatre and not to mention the cover design for the 12th Conference of Caricom Heads of Government (Press Kit Cover) from June 24th – July 4th 1991. The Official Independence Celebrations Program cover was done by me and it was a piece in which I called “Nation on the Move”. The State Service cover and the Independence Magazine cover, which was “Birth of a New Nation”, were some of my contributions.
In 1984 I won the design to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery, a sculpture of that design was erected at the Deep Water Port. While working at the Government Printery, I designed many greeting cards for the Governor and various Ministers of Government and the Krunkitts packages for Nova Foods Ltd. The 58 meeting of the International whaling Commission’s Logo, Posters and Banners were some of my most resent designs on the international scene.
For Carifesta IIV, I was afforded the opportunity of designing and painting, the Back Drop for the opening and closing celebrations of the Festival.
Presently, I have my own Art Gallery, called Booyork’s Art Gallery, in the Sir Lee Moore’s building. My Black Sand T- Shirts designs are geared to promoting St.Kitts. I am Hooked on Sugar City was my first. Kittitian Carnival, SKB Black Sand and many others. Three of my most recent paintings, were featured at the recently concluded Carifta Games, held in St. Kitts.
Here are some of the Cricket Teams that I played for since my return to St. Kitts. The Youngsters Cricket Club, Renown, Eskimo and the Garden Cricket Team and Park Boys.
I have been a volunteer for the Music Festival (from start to present), the Cricket World Cup, the National Carnival and a participant in various aspects of Carnival for over 35 years. I have served on various National committees and have been a judge for many Carnival events and Art Competitions.
Currently I am a lecturer of Art and Timber at the C.F.B College.
On the musical side of things, some of my achievements are as follows:
I played with the Ashanti Band, during the 1984 Carnival Season as a vocalist.
Here are just a few of the International Artistes that I have been a part of the opening Act for Beres, Marcia Griffith (Bob Marley and the Wailers), Third World, Buju Banton, Frankie Paul, and many others. Wongo and my self have performed at various Carnival events, including Queen shows. In 2007 I was afforded the opportunity to judge Carnival in Tobago.
My vision for National Carnival is to get the nation, especially the Youths rejoicing together, maintaining their culture, and to develop a product that we as Kittitians could be proud of…….(Cultural)
